One might add that long ago, Lebanon was also a 'beautiful mosaic'. That was before it was torn to pieces and permanently ruined by religious and sectarian violence. It's sad to say, but it does not seem likely that either Syria or Iraq will ultimately escape the same fate. What force is strong enough to overcome deep seated hatred and mistrust that is further fueled by arms shipments and cynical manipulation of people's emotions?
