I am sure that Bashar Assad will believe Israel this time. His father was certain that Israel would not invade Syria in 1967, so he did not bring Syrian troops South to defend the Golan Heights. He believed that if he did not provoke Israel, if he did not start a fight with Israel, they would reciprocate. Then of course, Moshe Dayan was told by the Northern Command that Syria had not built up their defenses in the Golan, and were not planning any movements into Northern Israel. Moshe Dayan's response was ... 'No soldiers? So if we attack we can take the Golan then?' The answer was yes so he attacked. Bashar Assad must not repeat the mistake his father made. He must defend Syria.
