in reality, the solution was proposed, divide the country into two parts, one jewish, one palestinian arab. note that around 2/3 of the jewish state was barren desert. the palestinians would've got the better end of the deal: most of the lush galilee, and the entire central part of the country, minus a 5-7 mile strip that was israel. they also got 1/3 of the coastline, from egypt to isdud/ashdod. and on top of that they got a nice chunk of the negev desert two. but being to nearsighted and rejectionist in compromise for the future, peaceful, even one day hopefully friendly tolerance between the two states the arabs IN PRINCIPLE rejected partition. the nakba could have been avoided to a large extent, the refugees would still be in their homes. arab refusal to compromise helped create the disaster, and just as jews should acknowledge the compromise/suffering of the palestinians, the arabs have to be honest and admit they are also culpable in their share of the problem
