Sullivan, after reading many of your posts, I'm finally starting to understand you. In between scathing attacks on Israel, you sometimes write eloquent passages on universality versus tribalism in Judiasm. The tribal tendency of the Jewish people troubles you, I can see that. Is this because you're a convert, i.e. not related to the Jewish tribe through blood? Let me guess, after converting, you moved to Israel, inspired by the Zionist dream. You joined the army, went to synogogue, did all the right things. But obviously something went wrong with your dream. You were rejected by the racist Jews in Israel, who look down on converts. Am I getting warmer? Perhaps you were even rejected in love, not Jewish enough? With your dreams destroyed, you returned to the US an angry man. Your anger turned to hatred, then turned to revenge.
