What kind of a western, progressive world do we live in when you can commit a crime just for believing in something? Denial of anything should never be a crime in an open and free society. History has shown us that when a minority uses the power of the state to repress an idea or belief it always backfires. You fight ideas with ideas, what is next? A law making a crime to deny that Jesus ever existed? Or a law to deny that what happen in the bombing of Dresden during WW2 was not a war crime? It's idiotic to have laws like this, and this is the point that the Iranina leader was trying to make. That the west is hypocrital when it talks about free speech when they themselves have laws banning certain thoughts. Should Turkey then make a law making it illegal to say that the Armenian holocaust was actually a holocaust? Or do they have that law already? How progressive. If you really believe that the holocaust happened then why all the fear? Fear is always associated with fear of truth.
