As an "opinion piece", the Strenger blog gets no priority from Haaretz on publishing the comments by readers. What happens is that on the first day of publication, very few comments are being published, the Talkback people realize this and stop reading, so few comments are added. It can be seen by the meager number of responses to other comments, and especially the thumbs up-or-dowm feature which is almost empty. The result is very little feedback, and Strenger remains in the dark of night regarding his influence on readers' thoughts. A comparison with the number of published comments on Mr. Burston's articles may be "illuminating", since Burston and Strenger write on similar topics and share the same political view. There are many more responses to Burston's than to Strenger's articles. Why is that? Is the Burston style so much better? The obvious answer is that the number of comments has little to do with quality. Mr. Burston is right there in the Haaretz building, and the moderators respond to his needs. If they don't, he does it himself. So Strenger better tell Haaretz: Get your act together and pay him more attention, or he will quit this discriminatory system. Let Burston write twice as many articles per week.
