The hesitancy to engage in an immediate all out ground offensive may have prevented smashing Hesbollah, but it allowed the international community to become involved in disarming Hebollah and prevented Israel from being condemned as a bully by the entire world. That's worth a lot for future security as long as the international community is effective in disarming Hesbollah. But it may not work, it may get bogged down, in which case Israel has the right and should be prepared to return, pulling out every stop, to smash Hezbollah. Olmert needs to make that clear, or step aside and let soemone take his place who will.
