    We are of the 2500 year-old B'nai Israel (Indian-Jewish) community, being about 25,000 in Israel and more around the world. A short story about our experience here in Canada: Four years ago my 66 yr old mum and I were standing in the EL AL check-in line at Toronto Int'tl airport. She was pre-screened to volunteer with the Sar-El prgm with the IDF. All previous passengers checked their luggage and went on to the boarding gate. A plain- clothes security officer came and asked if we needed some help, assuming we were lost etc. Mum asked where she could sign up for the frequent-flyer program, I told him mum was travelling alone, bec he was security. 45 minutes later mum returned from check-in and told me a shocking story: inside a woman asked her questions to prove that she was a Jew: about sabbath, what we did and ate for the just-celebrated Passover, how she could have a Jewish name being from India. Mum said she taught the Israeli interviewer many things...
