"Speak softly and carry a big stick." - Theodore Roosevelt At the end of last year Obama and Clinton had assembled a coalition in the P%+! and Gulf to sanction Iran if it didn't start cooperating more fully with the IAEA. The coalition came with strings. The US cannot 'lead' in the Gulf while if follows Israel for example. The Gulf support weakened perceptibly with the total collapse of any peace effort. The bombast is probably more motivated by the decline in Obama's credibility now that it is clear his diffidence has lead to not only his failure to bring about a peace deal, or even serious negotiations; but also to his failure as a president to lead his party or achieve any stated goal. Everyone in the region is unhappy with Iran, but there are few if any willing to hurt themselves by sanctioning Iran given the failure of Obama. The administration has devolved to ranting and raving in an attempt to seem strong when it has achieved nothing but failure.
