including Arab civil rights but not much different on peace talks with the Palastinains or settlement construction. Yet to read how Lapid differs from Barak on those subjects. Of course Abbas could announce recognition of Israel as a Jewish state coupled with equal protection of the laws for Arabs in Israel and Jews on the West Bank, and that would be a game changer, but that level of decency goes against the preferred Palastinain narrative. Abbas is no Sadat either in courage or in political control. Instead, Abbas will go with the flow using Palastinain victimhood as a defense against making a positive contribution (and he will be cheered on by many talkbackers who free Palastinains from any responsibity in settling the problem).
