The Security Council is paralyzed by a certain Russian veto, but even without it, it is best for the West not to get involved militarily in toppling Assad. Unlike Libya, Syria is armed to the teeth, so it will be difficult to intervene without significant casualties. Fortunately, the Syrian rebels contain military units, and more will join them as the Sunnis get annoyed by killings of their co-religionists. The Syria rebellion will take care of itself, as it should.
