One nuance US faces vs. Russia in the `revenge` factor today is actually more problematic than during an open `cold war` era. Both countries had their `walls`-the Soviets its block & US the Western Europe. With both blocks disappearing, the Eastern block held together by force, as soon as they could, & the Western block when the left or socialist mentality & the `envy` of US prevailed over non existing anymore communist threat, the US actually lost because her wall was much more `solid & useful` than the Soviet one. For the very same reason as in Israeli/Islamic world relationship when one side is mostly defends, shields & counteracts to the hostile incitement of the other. Thus not only without such `wall, but in conjunction to all the anti-US, liberal left propaganda cultivated in Europe & bearing fruit today, hurts US with the untold return into `cold war` status. I am not an expert, but US would do herself a favor to align with all the anti-Russian forces as much as possible.
