The reform was recommended by the Trajtenberg panel, the mandate of which was to improve the economic situation of the middle class. What the "education" suggestions do is to provide babysitters for children 3-5 years old, as well as babysitters for school kids from the end of school to 4 pm. These would free parents of some costs of raising kids and allow some of them to work longer hours so their income rises. Very nice. But why replace babysitters by trained kindergarten instructors and teachers? Replace non-professionals by non-professionals so the cost does not increase immeasurably. In short, and to the point, an "education reform" should be initiated by educators, not by economists. Something is rotten here. P.S. I am all for education, but this reform is very suspicious.
