There are those who think only in absolutes. They can never acknowledge that everything in life is relative, even eternal love. Friendship, also is relative. Friends can have disagreements, even fights, without stopping to be friends. What matters is what is at the core of the friendship. The friendship, or alliance between the United States and Israel is a close one. Without the United States, Israel could not have come into existence. Looking at the relationship over a span of sixty years, there is no doubt that Israel has benefited from this friendship. Yet we should not forget that this friendship, based on core srategic and philosophical interests, has been also beneficial to the United States. Israel sits on the crossroads of three continents, and she is one of the countries in the region that the United States can count on to keep those crossroads open. This is no small matter. If it were, other world powers would not have attempted to inject themselves into the region.
