David Ben Gurion differed from the politics of the Likud, and you know that but he understood where the sociopolitical stance of the Herut (Likud) party stood in perspective to reestablishing the Jewish state. They wanted the maximum territory possible for religious grounds in returning to the land of our ancestors (post Holocaust and the period throughout the world also disregarded the inhabitants of perpetual colonies,( eg. all Asia, all Africa, all South America, etc. )and also for Israel's defense. This is putting it in a nutshell. There were examples where PM David Ben Gurion defied international pressure, even from the U.S. but in general, he was a definite peacenik and believed in living amongst all the Arab nations in peace. This divide between Labour and Likud explains why David Ben Gurion considered the likes of Menachem Begin as his nemesis, but that was on the political peripheral level, not as a fellow Jew.
