(1) Turkey has rights with respect to the Island of Cyprus pursuant to the Treaty of Guarantee between the Republic of Cyprus, Greece, Turkey and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland 1960. (2) Turkey exercised its right of intervention on the Island in 1974 pursuant to Article IV of the aforementioned Treaty in response to EOKA atrocities against Turkish Cypriots. (3) The Turkish Cypriots through a UN Observed referendum declared there independence on the 15th of NOVEMBER 1983. (4) The international community do not recognize the Universal Declaration of Independence by the Turkish Cypriots. However, recognition is not a determinant of sovereignty or Statehood. (5) Turkey guarantee's and will continue to guarantee the sovereignty of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. (6) Turkey is the world's most important energy hub. It is also Europe's only alternative to Russian energy suppliers. Two of the world most important oil pipelines cross Turkish territory: B-T-C pipeline, South Stream (Turkish territorial waters) and the NABUCCO. (7) Israel can build a pipeline to Cyprus but where will it go from Cyprus? For Cyprus to export oil into Europe it has to go through Turkish territory and connect with the BTC and/or NABUCCO.
