I myself have had to ask cab drivers not to look at me while talking. They think I'm being a worrywart for fearing that a couple of seconds can matter, but the fact is that even a fraction of a second can be the difference between a near-miss and a devastating accident. TV and radio commercials, not to mention driver-ed classes, should help change the false bravado currently associated with talking drivers who focus on their passengers instead of on the road as they should.
