With no USSR to worry about, Turkey has become just another cantankerous Islamic pseudo-ally like Pakistan. Incirlik is nearly closed. US ships rarely visit Aksar naval base. Besides the US Jewish community, US is home to large and influential Greek and Armeniam communities that hate Turkey's guts. US Congress just last year denounced the Armenian Genocide and called on Turkey to apoloigize for it. If Turkey thinks it is going to play hardball with Israel, it can kiss its 100 F-35 stealth jets goodbye because Congress will block the sale if Turkey is seen as other than a good friend of Israel - the whole basis for approving arms to Turkey in the first place. Turkey doesn't have "strategic interests", except to the old geezers and islamists who think they are going to get the Ottoman Empire back, and that ain't gonna happen. EU is already moving away from Turkey's wild behavior and instability. No reason nopw for the US to demand Turkey agree to an independent Kurdistan for 25 million Kurds, who, unlike Hamas and the PLO, are capable of running a country, and deserve one.
