OK if Danny is 70 then he might well have been in Israel during the Nakbah and have memories of the horrors inflicted on the Palestinians as Israel drove 800,000 people into the sea or the Jordan river while putting typhoid in the water near Haifa and pouring oil down the streets of Jaffa and setting it alight to burn the Palestinians alive. Or seen the houses being blown up by the terrorist Irgun and Stern gangs, or watched the children being tortured and driven from their homes and into Lebanon and Jordan with promises by Israel that they could come back. I have just read the first book by a Palestinian on the issue - Elias Chacour, a christian priest, who is a bit younger than Danny. Strange how the two stories gel. And much older Israeli's like Uri Avnery remember it too, which is why he left the monstrous Irgun to be a peace protestor for the past 50+ years. It is Palestine, it cannot be kept and Israel will destroy herself by continuing to try.
