I give to ISEF, one of those organizations providing "external scholarships". Now the government wants a cut of my contributions! To that, I say NUTS! Here's the irony: Under a US-Israel tax treaty, my contributions routed to a recognized US-based arm of that charity, are deducted from my US income. Yet Israel is likely to discourage such contributions if people see part of it is going to the government as a "tax". This idea is just ludicrous.
