Americans, Japanese, British, Koreans, Chinese -- the list goes on. Yes, exceptionalism has a dark side (manifest destiny, anyone?) but it also drives some impressive achievements. Americans would never have gone to the moon, for instance. And Jews would never have survived the millennia in exile without that feeling of uniqueness and purpose.
