The US now has the choice of agreeing to a deal that will make the sanctions a political issue in the US, or having it become too obvious that the 'nuclear issue' was only a pretense for their attempt to crush Iranian independence for all but the most willfully blind governments to see. Given that the 'sanctions' regime has reached the point of negative returns (increasing them only results in more opposition and circumventions, making the ones already in place less effective) Obama is faced with what may appear to be a lose-lose situation with the political establishment, but could be a win with the American public, if he dares to take on the Israeli-Republican narrative directly and forcefully.
