Assad the father was known as a tough man, refusing to succumb to pressure, and changing course very slowly. He was greatly respected in the Arab world for his toughness. This may be judged good or bad, but Assad the father certainly lasted much longer than his predecessors. His son seems to be following papa's footsteps. So far, he didn't rush to placate his people. He needs to do it, but this will come slowly. The cabinet's resignation, surely at his demand, will be explained as an initiative of the PM, not the President. Assad is acting OK for now. But it must be clear to him that a change in the system is necessary at his earliest slower time.
