The horror! If your visa expires, you aren't allowed to stay. If you are asylum seeker, you can only stay if the country lets you. You can't just sneak across the border and expect to stay with the excuse of being an "asylum seeker". If you don't have Israeli citizenship or a visa, you can't just live with a partner. Even if you requested a permit to stay in Israel, you can't just stay in Israel while you're waiting for a response. The whole reason for the permit is so you CAN stay in the country. It would be like driving a car while you don't have insurance and you get pulled over by a cop and tell the cop "Well, I'm just driving around until I get approved for insurance, so I'll be able to drive eventually." It's hilarious how Israel gets criticized for this, yet I can bet if this were a Western European country, they would get away with this.
