I personally was against it too, Smadar, but there weren't too many who saw it that way here, inside the country. It was timed to coincide with the interregnum between US Presidencies and the Christmas-New Year break when everything including news services ran on a skeleton staff. I cannot say I was prepared for the scale or the style of it though, no. Nor was I prepared for travelling on a bus airing interviews with a Gazan doctor who used to work in a Beersheva fertility clinic, shouting, pleading for sense to prevail on his cellphone while audibly under fire, our fire, without reaction from passengers. Three of his daughters were killed by one of those shells a few days later. Hamas criminally neglected to protect the population it was elected to defend, but that does not excuse our abuse. This report underlines that. As you do, I hear the will to negotiate from Hamas, heard it again today from Gazan journalist Sami Abed. We should not be turning our backs on it.
