According to the Camp David agreement the Egyptian army can not be in south Sinai, which is all of the coast and from around 200 kilometers from the west. They do have a large police/security force which is poorly trained, equipped payed and quite frankly most of the them don't care. The Egyptian authorities have been wanting to change the situation for many years but now with the new "government" it would be wrong and dangerous on Israel's part to agree.
