It sounds simple, but one could make a case that military aggressors lose some of their rights when they are beaten in a war. Otherwise, if there is no penalty for agression, there is no disincentive to making war. Even if you lose, you get it back. And if you win, well, let's not think about what would have happened. Not that anyone would have minded. Personally, I believe that the UN expected the Jews to be wiped out in Palestine.
