Silwan has Jews who required livinng with armed protection in an neighborhood populated with Arabs. It is the same with Israel, a relatively small number of Jews smack dab in the middle of the Middle East which the Arabs and Muslims claim belongs exclusively to them. If Israel can't guarantee that Jews can live safely in Silwan, a place Jews lived in long before the state of Israel arose, then it won't be able to guarantee its own national security. It's that simple.
