To Silvienne: "Such was the degree of opposition to the idea of a Jewish state that Arab spokesmen even threatened openly to hold their Jewish populations as the hostages of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Heikel Pasha, Egypt's representative at the U.N. debate, warned the international community of a violent anti-semitic reaction throughout the Arab world that might even lead, as he said, 'to the massacre of a large number of Jews' in the Arab countries." (Ben-Ami, Scars of War, Wounds of Peace, 2007, Oxford University Press, p. 41). Perhaps he'd have felt differently if he were one of those threatened with massacre.
