Oh please people, read between the lines before you accuse the US of conditional democracy. To be exact, there is no other way around it over there. What US is implying they will not tolerate terrorism and politics hand in hand, even if Hamas blends in somewhere. Even if PA wins the national ticket, Hamas is going to gain many parliamentary sits. So US are saying: we know you are going to heavily influence PA policies from those sits and we know how easy it is for you to have it your way, even if there is an opposition to your initiatives. Yes, US are promoting PA because PA is at the huge disadvantage. They do not want to see Abbas resign in the few months following the elections and through everything back into the chaos, simply because he can not have his say with ?your gun to his head?. We need unity or at least an even playing field. In effect, it is the beginning for the rooting out of the hydra system and it has to be done first and foremost for any negotiating process to begin.
