American Jews did what they could all along Shoshana. And that is water over the dam. It is hard to see how there would have ever been an Israel without the World Zionist Organization and the Jewish Agency for Israel. When David Ben Gurion spoke to Rudolf Sonneborn and a room full of his friends and contacts in July 1945 he did not ask them to keep their money and not use their influence to help him create - AND ARM - Israel. But that was long ago, and Israel is now a fact and no longer threatened with extermination. Perhaps it is time to end the long-standing relationship, to let the WZO and Jewish Agency know that their help is no longer necessary or desired. They will not, however, understand that so long as their largess is accepted. If they understand that, then their largess will no longer be forthcoming. So what does Israel want and expect. It cannot wish to be free of the WZO and JA unless it expects to be without their aid.
