That aura of optimism that emanates from Shimon Peres and that has become his trade-mark throughout his long, political life is an invaluable asset in warding off a spirit of cynicism and defeatism which inhibits the drive and initiative to take action in order to produce historical changes to create a better society. That he went above and beyond the limits of his mostly ceremonious position as President and spoke out against several potentially harmful initiatives the current government was contemplating (first and foremost the ultimate folly of an attack on Iran) demonstrates his deep dedication to protect the best interests of the country and its people and not to be deterred from displaying the courage of his convictions. History will look favorably on him and his achievements.
