Lapid got where he is not because everybody fell in love with him but because they they hated Livni & her arrogant attitude and Shelly and her pre election announcement that she would not join any government led by Bibi. Miss moral attitude went down well with some of the party faithful but the swing voters were more interested in who is going to actually make a difference. They felt that Shelly should be in the coalition trying to affect policy rather than boasting about her morality so they decided that a vote for Labor was a wasted vote so as they didn't like Livni and voting for Shelly was pointless they decided Lapid was the best alternative and that is why Lapid has 19 seats and Labor has only 2 seats more than they did in the last election when earlier in the year they were predicting a huge victory. Meretz also managed to double their seat count because Shelley kept telling everybody Labor was a centrist party because centrist is more fashionable and Meretz were very clever said we are the only left wing party so the people who voted Labor when it was a left wing party decided to go with Meretz because it was a left wing party. So fact is it is Shellys stupidity that was responsible for the success of Meretz & Lapid. Likud did badly mostly because before the election all the polls were showing Likud getting high 30s low 40s so Likud voters just took it all for granted that Bibi was going to wipe the floor with all the others so they didn't come out to vote or they went with Bennet thinking that he would be a good coalition partner. The whole upside down election result was based on external factors not necessarily what the voters actually wanted.
