Sharon did a lot of things that I disapprove of. His term has housing minister (build settlements as fast as possible), the Lebanon fiasco. During the Yom Kippur War he wanted to put his tanks across the Suez canal before there was means to get them fuel on the other side. Certainly a bold guy. But, he finally saw the futility of holding onto the Gaza strip and figured out that he had to cut off this strip of land lest it contaminate Israel itself. How could a hundreds of thousands of Palistinians be controlled and contained to the benefit of a few thousand "settlers". Israel's position seems more dire every day. For that they can thank the tyranny of Likud.
