Don't forget that we are talking about a self-willed soldier-politician, who has been living a not very healthy life for decades. Like Rehav'am Ze'evi and Yitzhak Rabin, who often ignored warnings and advice from those responsible for their security, Ariel Sharon had a say in what he did, and how and where he did it. Of course those in charge of their safety and health are blamed, and maybe, or even probably, mistakes were made, but the P&E ( personality/ego ) factor of the VIPs themselves should be taken into account as well.
