Shalom Freedman you have become ultra-rightist and dispicable in your attack on dissent. Segev is totally loyal and pro-Israel. He is not a far leftist, is books evoke sympathy with Israel and her history and are wonderful. But you talk like old-fashioned ultra-rightist European anti-Semites attacking the "cosmopolitanism" and "disloyalty" of Jews. You talk like ultra-right authoritarian Arabs in their attitudes for conformist "loyalty" and against dissent -- from benign rulers like Mubarak to toxic ones like Saddam. You talk like Soviet rulers who hated their dissidents - from Andre Sakharov to Natan Sharansky. If you were Soviet how you would have hated them ! The greatest human spirits are usually history's liberal dissidents - its Socrateses, Spinozas, Thoreaus. Like all who hate unpopular speech, how you must hate Thoreau's "Civil Disobedience" and Sharansky's "The Case for Democracy"! Unless you like Sharansky for his conformism - so are hypocrite.
