Shai: You are right that Jews and Palestinian Arabs are fairly close in terms of genetic distance. However, Jews are closer yet to the remnant of the Samaritans. See this link: http://evolutsioon.ut.ee/publications/Shen2004.pdf Since the Samaritans can rightfully claim continual presence and religious practice in the land, it would suggest that Jews are closer to ancient Judeans than Palestinian Arabs are. An interesting side note is that the male line of Palestinians is the most different whereas the female line is not. This suggests that the spread of Islam in the Middle East was possibly similar to the spread of Christianity in South America. However, I agree with you that what's done is done. At this point, we should try to find a fair compromise and live in peace.
