The horrible sufferings which drove the American pilgrim fathers to seek refuge in America was the lesson America taught to the whole world. As a believer in the God of the Bible myself, I thank God for FREEDOM OF RELIGION AND FREEDOM OF THE PEOPLE TO RULE THEIR OWN STATE FREE FROM THE SHACKLES OF ANY RELIGION. Both religion and sound government are protected. Unfortunately in America, they have forgotten European history which drove their Pilgrim fathers to America's shores for refuge from European Religous State tyranny - where state and church were indeed united to the hurt of both. The Tanach teaches freedom of religion. There is a Covenant with God, and people are free to choose to live by it, or live outside it. God forces nobody, because Freedom of Conscience is a Divinely inspired biblical pricniple. History has confirmed this fact. Where religion and state mix, there is a curse.
