We should not waste anymore money on Iron Dome. The only reason it was developed was an attempt by Olmert to try and boost his image after he screwed up Lebanon after trying to micromanage the whole thing. He announced we were going to design something to stop Hizbollah rockets in future and it would be made in Israel, the Iron Dome didn't even exist on paper when Olmert said here is some money make something. It must be domestic for feel good factor. Each battery of Iron Dome cost the around the same price as 3 F16s Each interceptor cost $50,000 compared to a $10 kassam that Hamas have around 40,000 of. Between Israel pulling out of Gaza - Cast Lead in 2008 if we had been shooting down every single rocket fired from Gaza then for the amount of interceptors we would have needed we could have bought an entire squadron of F16s. How can that be value for money. The thing has no use at all as a system to protect the public during a war like Lebanon. We can spend hundreds of millions on this piece of scrap iron or the IDF can use that money to buy weapons they can actually use to win wars instead of shooting down rockets. As for Barak's little announcement how Iron Dome isn't perfect, what kind of idiot says on the record the system isn't perfect. He also says the system isn't perfect but we intend to buy more batteries in future.
