Spouting his polemicist best, Tom Segev stated "Mashriki's argument that Hamoked and B'Tselem do not defend human rights, but only the rights of Palestinians, is appalling and frightening. In her view, either the Palestinians do not fall under the category of persons entitled to human rights, or they are not human beings." Of course, this line of thinking allows him to completely avoid the idea that Israeli's have human rights too. Human rights groups that choose to champion the rights of only a single side in a two-party conflict are advocates...kind of like lawyers, rather than defenders of universal justice. Rights for only me, and none for you, bankrupts the idea of a universal standard of human right, reducing it to a mere slogan of "hooray for our side."
