I have a similar observation about the concept of the "chosen people". Invariably, the only time I ever hear those words is when they are part of some antisemitic rant. Most Jews don't take them seriously. They were intended to denote ethical and spiritual responsibilities anyway... not superiority. And no, most of us don't live up to those responsibilities.
