I'm surprised Yosi Sarid first defines himself as a Jew because her mother is a Jew. Identity is not something coming from your mother's ADN. You often have a different identity from your father, your mother, or both of them. You can be American from Russian parents, Muslim from a Christian mother, etc, and that's not different for Jews. For instance in Israel some Russian people from a Jewish mother are Christian in reality, go to the church, etc, while they are said to be Jews on their identity card; and some Russian from a Jewish father are really Jewish because their identity is a really Jewish identity, while they are not said to be Jews on their identity card. Sarid's role, as a free thinker and reason follower, is to see that. Not to think like an orthodox rabbi.
