In two articles today, here and in A. Pfeffer's article we find the mistaken assertion that the Kotel haMaaravi 'attained its sanctity' only as of the 16th century. Apparently your "fact-checkers" are not aware of Rabbi Akhah's statement that "The Divine Presence never veered from the Western Wall of the Temple", which appears in Midrash Shemot Rabba 2:2; Bamidbar Rabba 11:22; Midrash Tehillim 11 - all from the Classical Rabbini period; and this is quoted in Medieval Rabbinic sources such as R Bahya, Recanati, and the Sefer Mitzvot Gadol, as well as others, hundreds of years before the 16th century.
