I flew out of Kennedy Airport on El Al and had my luggage searched in front of everybody. The only difference was that I am a Kippa wearing Jew and my interview was conducted largely in Hebrew. I was also travelling on an Israeli solidarity trip and was wearing a nametag stating as much with a folder from our group. It happens, I dealt with it, and had a lovely trip to Israel. When I flew to Israel on another airline, I was appalled that I was not searched, not questioned, but just handed a boarding pass as though I was flying to Toledo.
