The test for Samantha Power will be Ethiopia where 423 citizens in Gambella and 197 in Addis Ababa were gunned down and no one is talking about them. Evictions of indigenous communities in Omo Valley, Gambella, Bench-Maji, Benishangul-Gumuz continues unabated. Susan Rice simply and unashamedly sided with the late-Prime Minister Meles Zenawi calling him a "personal friend" and a "world class mind." His speeches and writings were spiced with phrases like "cutting fingers" of dissenters and jailing, torturing or exiling journalists on charges of terrorism for writing his party needs to allow free and fair elections. His party has vowed to continue his policies. Aid money is being smuggled out of the country [over $16.5 billions since 2001 according to the Washington-based Global Financial Integrity] not including wealth amassed by the late-prime minister, his wife, and ruling party elite. Obama Administration never stopped sending in millions more of taxpayer dollars and never wanting to explain why despotic governments are not held unaccountable to international standards. Ethiopian rulers have been more than willing to serve as host country for repatriated terror suspects and/or participated in extraordinary rendition. Irony of ironies, Ethiopia was elected to UN Human Rights Council late last year! Time will show, therefore, if Ms. Power will not be more of the same and if Susan Rice as special counsel will still be the decisive voice in this.
