I have always admired Yossi Sarid, one of the finest parlimentarians who ever served in Israel. For that reason it saddened me to read his latest defence of something which is indefensible - the stealing of secret security documents by a soldier and the refusal of a journalist to return same documents in the name of "democracy". Somewhere along the line I have lost my admiration for Mr. Sarid, whose former party I supported for many years. The Israeli Left is lost in rhetoric and words and has alientated most of its former supporters by its unbelievable naivity and loss of basic decency. Since when was it possible to justify spying?
