Any two state solution by definition involves the leaders of both states giving up any claims to the other states internal affairs. Conditioning talks on the Palestinians' agreeing to Israel's self characterization as a Jewish state is simply an attempt to further humiliate the Palestinians. Isn't it enough that Israel will end up with 78% (at least) of the lands between the Jordan and the sea? Isn't it enough that the descendants of the 750,000 palestinians who were forced into exile in 1948 will probably have to accept some form of monetary compensation and give up their dreams of a return to their homes. It appears to me that attempting to impose this further humiliation is probably an attempt to sabotage the peace proceedings, so that the Israeli Government can keep operating an Apartheid regime in the West Bank and not face the wrath of the large numbers of Israeli extremists.
