Mr. Rotem and his fellow travelers from Beit Shemish, Mea Shaerim, Kiryas Joel and Lakewood are clearly not members of the same religion as me and most Disapora Jews. Whether his group which invented "Das Torah in the 20th century, Mtizah Be'Peh in the 12th century or Hassidism in 18th or the group which I belong to, and which produced the great thinkers and scientists of the enlightenment, are true Jews remains to be discussed. But if Mr. Rotem is right then why should I join AIPAC, buy Israeli Bonds give to JNF or visit Israel? Israel is increasingly becoming a Haredi Disneyland comprised of people who strive to live an imaginary form of Judaism in which never existed in Eastern Europe and which survives based on the generosity of people that Mr. Rotem claims are just another flavor of Goyim. We've already seen the younger general of diapora Jews drift away from Zionism. We are about to see average Joe Sixpack in the flyover states wonder why he should pay taxes to support people like Mr. Rotem.
