The Iran-iraq war not about sunni-shia rivalry you silly. It was about territorial dispute and b/c Iran was in its post-revolution turmoil, the usual suspects thought saddam would have a quick and speedy victory. And for the 1st 2 years he actually occupied Iran's territory with the backing of the whole world including your gov's grants, loan guarantees, intelligence and all the cookies. But one thing the world didn't know about Iran (and apparently still doesn't by the jist of your post), ALL Iranians are willing to die for their country and will fight the AGGRRESSORs to the last blood. And one thing they are good at is survival. 2ndly, Iraq is a majorit shia country, it was only ruled by a totalitarian minority baathist saddam. 3rdly, Saudis, Kuwaiti & UAE are also totalitarian regime who are in power b/c of US protection. They are anthing but the elite, not even in the vast deserts of their own lands.
