the premise that the u.s administration could offer bush era guarantees in exchange for a 60 day political advil is absolutely revolting. The fact that the u.s does not ask for a full freeze in exchange for such guarantees is nothing less than throwing Abbas under the bus. How can Abbas show his face to his people again when agreeing to conditions set by Obama that would ensure peace talks for 60 days in exchange for permanent territorial concessions by palestinians??? Besides, these territorial concessions are not Obama's to give away much less an actual binding agreement Israel can take to the 'bank'. Palestinians have lost so much, the 67 borders are the final line in the sand. Anything short of the pre-67 borders is a non-starter for any palestinian negotiator (whether elected or a self appointed leader whose term has officially expired in January 2009). Take away the 67 borders and no Palestinian leader will be able to reconcile it with its constituency, and Israel will be left with a famous 'piece of paper'. Palestinians will simply relinquish the two state solution, demand equal citizenship to all.
